Q: Why might my school or district be interested in a product like SEG-STATE?

A: In 2011, almost 30,000 pre-complaint inquiries were made by parents, guardians and even third parties regarding special education services in U.S. schools – a 100% increase from just two years prior. Although 63% of the complaints that arose out of these inquiries were ultimately settled to the satisfaction of the complainant, virtually all of the remainder involved allegations of civil rights violations by school systems that failed to provide a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

Q: How can these concerns be minimized?

A: One best practice for minimizing such complaints is to “quality assure” the delivery of special education services on a regular basis to ensure school system compliance with current federal and state guidelines. As a part of their mandate under 20 USC §1412(a)(11)(A), all states are responsible for ensuring school system compliance with the provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA); however, most provide only outcomes-focused outlines and training recommendations for conducting such reviews.

Q: Why choose SEG-STATE?

A: As a national leader in the school reform process, UpSlope Solutions has partnered with nearly 800 school districts in their efforts to put accountability related research into practice since 2004.
